Our Journey Through the Years

Established in 2006, the awards were a collaborative initiate between the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and Nielsen Company Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., aiming to recognize brands and personalities that have made a significant impact on the Sri Lankan populace.

Over the first five years, the awards gained national recognition, establishing itself as the most prestigious consumer-based awards in Sri Lanka. More brands and public figures started considering the SLIM People's Awards as a benchmark of popularity and success. Also, the categories began expanding, covering media, marketing, and corporate excellence.

New categories were introduced to accommodate evolving market trends. Fashion Retail Brand of the Year, FMCG Retail Brand of the Year, Social Media Brand of the Year. The awards now cover over 45 categories, representing the growing diversity of consumer preferences. The event became a key brand awareness platform for both emerging and well-established companies.

The research partnership transitioned from Nielsen to Kantar Group (UK), resulting in the rebranding of the awards as SLIM-Kantar People's Awards. Kantar brought global expertise in consumer insights, enhancing the accuracy and credibility of the award selection process. The decision-making process remained unchanged, ensuring the awards continued to be determined entirely by public opinion.

The 17th edition was themed "Choices Define Us", emphasizing the significance of consumer decisions in shaping markets and industries. The awards featured over 45 categories, covering: Media & entertainment, banking & financial services, telecommunications & technology, sports & public figures. The event continued to be a benchmark for Sri Lankan consumer preferences, recognizing the most trusted and beloved brands & personalities.

The 18th SLIM-Kantar People's Awards took place on March 19, 2024, at Monarch Imperial. The event continued to honor brands and public figures who held a special place in the hearts of Sri Lankans. As Sri Lanka’s premier consumer-driven award show, the SLIM People’s Awards remains a highly anticipated event in the marketing and business sectors.
